The quintessential Indian food. This recipe is almost as good as Victor's Mom's!
Ingredients
- 6 tbsp nonfat dry milk
- 3 cups bread flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 to 2 cups lukewarm water
- 1 tsp vegetable oil
- oil for deep frying
Directions
- Mix the dried milk with the flour, baking powder and salt
- With a wooden spoon, mix in the water in small amounts, using just enough to make a soft but not sticky dough
- Stir in the oil
- Knead the dough until it's pliable
- Pull off egg-sized pieces and roll them out to about 5 inches in diameter
- Fry the dough, one at a time, in a deep pot filled with sizzling oil or in a deep fryer, flipping after a couple minutes, until golden brown on both sides
- Drain on paper towels, serve hot
- Can be served with honey, cinnamon and sugar as scones
- Also, top with seasoned meat, beans, salsa and cheese to make indian tacos
